Here's How Confidence Affects your Overall Performance

Confidence can change your world. Confidence changes the way you think, act, make decisions, communicate, and much more. It can affect and even hinder your results. You might have imposter syndrome or low self-esteem, which puts a ceiling on how well you actually perform, or even blocks your success from reaching its potential. All three cases could halt you from living out your full potential.

So How Does Confidence Affect Performance? Confidence is your perception of yourself and it is closely related to performance in a vicious cycle. The perception of yourself as well as your view of the world has been colored by society and how they are perceived. If your perception of the task at hand is strong then you are generally going to have high confidence and in return, you will have an excellent performance. Whereas, if your perception of the task is weak then you will have vague confidence and hence the vague performance.

Confident people tend to think better and hence perform better? But how? Below are the things that happen when you are confident and hence improve your performance.

How Does Confidence Make you Perform Better

  • Confident People Work Best Under Stress

Confidence, or “Quieter Confidence,” as some people call it, enables you to be more creative, to be more focused on the task at hand, and to be more focused on reaching the goal. How is this achieved? By focusing your energy, attention, mind, and soul on the task at hand, and keeping all other distractions at bay so you can concentrate fully, you increase your ability to focus.

So does confidence. So how is that achieved? By changing your thinking, by re-writing your self-talk, and by making sure you’re completely prepared for the task at hand. A confident person takes his or her role seriously and is calm at all times and knows exactly what needs to be done for success. And don’t forget; the confident person talks and thinks like a winner! This in return creates a positive image about yourself and allows you to eliminate stress

So now you know how confidence reduces stress. Yes, there is a lot more to it than that, but that’s enough. Simply re-writing your self-talk and make sure you’ve changed your answers to what is required for success.

  • Confidence Boosts your leadership skills

Why is confidence an important leadership skill? When you believe in yourself and your capabilities, you become more confident in your ability to lead and overcome obstacles. When you have high confidence, you know that there will be no place for mistakes in your life and that you have total control of the outcome of every decision you make.

High confidence also makes you willing to face adversities head-on, because no one is safe from becoming a fool in front of you.

If you are not confident then you won’t be able to motivate anyone to work for you. This includes your team members which are important for the success of your organization. If you lack confidence then you might not be able to motivate even your team members, which is also very detrimental to your organization’s success.

  • Confidence Helps Develop a Positive Attitude

If you do not have a positive attitude and confidence, then you are bound to feel that things are not going to go your way, that nothing is going to come your way, and that it is going to be difficult for you to get ahead. But, when you have both these things, you will see that everything goes to plan. You will feel like you have the power on earth, and you will be able to make things happen according to the way you want them to. This is how your inner self or your inner “I” starts functioning.

Your inner “I” also has the power of positivity. Your inner “I” has all the answers and, if you use positive thinking (something that will also help with your confidence), you will surely get positive results. So, how can confidence and a positive attitude also help you achieve success? Well, this is simple – once you develop a positive attitude and have the power of self-belief, then it will be much easier for you to get through anything that you set your mind to.

  • Confidence Allows you to Make Better Decisions

How does confidence affect decision-making? It helps you focus on your goals more. When your confidence is high, you know exactly what you are going to do and how you are going to do it. You can focus on achieving your goals and feel confident that you will get there. When you lack confidence or you don’t have the right beliefs and self-esteem to back up your decisions and actions, you may make bad decisions that won’t help you reach your goals or worse, lead to failure.

With high confidence, there is no reason for you to hesitate or second guess yourself. However, with low confidence, you will always second guess yourself and this will make vague decisions that lead to mistakes, which will eventually ruin your chances of success.

  • Confidence encourages Positive Mindset

Having a positive outlook on life means that you are mentally ready to face whatever comes your way. You don’t need to put too much pressure on yourself to have a positive attitude. It’s just a question of making some changes in how you think.

When you have an appropriate attitude and thoughts, it is easy to start having a positive mindset. You are now able to start building confidence and becoming more positively driven. Being confident does not mean that you let others know how great you think you are, but it simply means that you are comfortable in your skin.

This may sound like an oversimplification of confidence but to understand how building confidence works it is important to remember that feeling good about yourself is one of the best forms of confidence there is.

People with high self-confidence and a healthy dose of self-assurance set their goals, tackle obstacles, and enjoy life. They know that every mistake is an opportunity to learn and grow. Learning and growth are the keys to success, and so if you want to know how to build a positive mindset, this is how confidence can build a positive mindset.

  • Confidence Allows you to Experience Less Anxiety

How does confidence affect anxiety? Well, if you lack confidence then the experience of anxiety is going to be more severe in comparison to someone who has a high level of confidence. Lack of confidence causes the fear factor and therefore people have to fight harder when they are under high stress.

This means that they cannot even think straight and experience all kinds of negative thoughts. When you have a very high confidence level then you will also be able to take control in any situation.

You will be able to determine what needs to be done and when to do them. Your confidence allows you to make decisions quickly, which is very beneficial in every aspect of your life including your professional and personal life.

Positive energy allows you to experience less stress.

  • Confidence makes you feel Motivated

Confidence makes you feel motivated. It is an emotion that gives you the will to go ahead with your plans, goals, and acts. You can feel confident about yourself when you are motivated. And when you feel motivated, even if you do not know what you are doing, you have the energy and strength to achieve what you desire.

You can build your confidence by recognizing your past successes and focusing on what you can become in the future. You can start to see yourself acting like an achiever and achieving great things. The more you visualize your goals, the more you will become convinced that you can do it. The more you would feel confident.

When you are confident you do not take any nonsense from others. This includes those who try to steal your thunder or makeup excuses for why you cannot achieve what you want.

Conclusion

All of these things combined builds your confidence and hence allows you to execute the task with everything that you have got. This in returns improves your performance
