How to Start a New Life from Scratch and Rediscover Peace

The most important question that you as a person must ask yourself is “Why should you start a new life?”. There are so many reasons for people to want to start a new life. You might have lost your job, you need more money or you simply think it is time for a change. We go through a lot of changes throughout our lives and we must continue to do the things that make us happy, or at least that is what we think.

Starting a new life is important because it gives you a new reason to live. It makes you realize that your life is worth living and that the things you’re grateful for now are more than enough. This is because you see that there are much more blessings to be had than what you’ve ever realized before. In this article, I would be covering everything you need to know to start a new life from scratch to discover peace and Success.

Is it possible to start a new life?


It is possible to start a new life. But the first thing you need to do is to be honest to yourself that you want this change. We all make mistakes, but I am sure that you would like to have a life with less stress, no debts, and more juice in life. And we’re never too old to hunt for what we want. Below are the steps you can take to start a better life and move towards a better future. 

Let us assume that we want to start a new journey in maintaining our physical body and to become more fit and lean. I would be giving you a list of exercises wherever necessary and use the fitness journey as an example.

  • Look for New Opportunities

Sometimes you are just bored with the same old routine and perhaps you did get what you were looking for but now you want more. When you are first starting to look for opportunities, there are many things that you have to take into consideration. These things can include your interests, skills, personal characteristics, and qualities as well as your personality and personal beliefs. 

You must keep these things in mind when you start looking for opportunities because you need to make sure that you get the best education, training, and skills possible. This means that you need to think about all the options open to you and how they fit in with your characteristics and interests.

After you have taken all of these things into consideration, you then need to take action and find the best opportunity for you. Remember that this may not be an easy process but it is worth working at it and doing it. With a little hard work, you can find the best possible opportunity for yourself. To find the best opportunity make sure you grab a book or journal and do the exercise that helped me find the best opportunities.

Be it your Financial, Personal or Professional field, this exercise should work pretty much on most of the aspects of your life.

Exercise – We would be using a traditional SWOT analysis to find the opportunities that we can capture. This would help you understand yourself better. Simply identify the area you want to improve or restart and conduct a SWOT analysis. It stands for Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. This is what your SWOT Analysis should look like –

  • Learn from your Mistakes and Adopt this Mindset

Learning from your mistakes is one of the most important skills that you can acquire in life. If you’ve made mistakes in the past, the first thing that you must do is acknowledge your errors. 

Try asking yourself, “What can I do next time to avoid this mistake?” When you start a New Life in whatever field you want to improve, rather than repeating your mistake, ask yourself, “What would have been better or could I have done differently the next time to avoid this problem?”  Write down the learnings. This way, rather than repeating your mistake, you are already aware that there is a better way of doing it next time.

The mindset that I am encouraging you to have is a Learning Mindset. Having a learning mindset that is aligned with what you want in life can be the difference between success and failure. You have to make sure that you are willing to learn new things and that you are willing to try things that are new to you. Many people are stuck with fear and hence they give up, but this is a bad habit to get into. If you start taking steps towards changing your mindset to a learning mindset, then your results will begin to show up.

Exercise – Write down the top 3 things you’ve done wrong and write down what you could do instead. Also, write down what did you learn from it

Example – 

  • Showing Laziness ( If I did keep pushing through I would have got the desired results)
  • Write down your Fears and Draw an Action Plan to tackle them

Do you want to learn how to write down your fear? Learning how to write down your fear can be one of the best self-help skills that you can acquire. This also allows you to start a new life by making you aware of your limiting beliefs and fears.

Writing down allows you to confront the fears in front of your head on and it lets you write them down so you can then review them and see if they are still true for you. There is no substitute for actually writing down your fear and reading it to yourself each day until it disappears. And it’s important to note that this can be overcome if you have the desire and if you know how to write down your fear. 

Exercise – Before reading further Write down at least 10 things that are holding you back and rate them on a scale of 0-10. Pick out the top 3 items that you fear the most. 

Example – 

  • Time Constraints
  • Laziness
  • Lack of Motivation

Tip – You can ask questions like What Causes me Anxiety? What am I most scared of when I want to start something new?

The next step is to prepare the actions you would take to overcome them. Now that you have a list of things that hold you back. It is time to jot down the action plans that would allow you to face and overcome those fears. This might not be the easiest thing to do but trust me, once you do it, you will master the art of living. 

Exercise –  Do at least one thing that would make you step in front of your fear

Example – Go and speak to the mentor about the goal and ask his advice

  • Maintain OQP (Only Quality People)

The first thing that you need to understand about dealing with negative people is that they can only hurt you if you allow them to. The more that you try to avoid them and being the “good” person that you are, the closer you will get to having problems with a person like that. Therefore, we all should follow the concept of Only Quality People by Les Brown, American Motivational Speaker. This means letting go of the people that do not inspire you.

When starting a new life, it is critical to let go of the people that did not empower you or brought any value in friendship or your life. You don’t necessarily want to ghost them but keeping a safe distance is advisable.

So how do you get rid of people who do not empower you? You begin by removing their ability to control you in any way. You can empower yourself within your mind and realize that no one has the power to make you feel bad about yourself.

Exercise – Write down the list of people who eat unhealthy food and encourage you to eat it too.

  • Find your Anxiety Triggers

Most individuals find that they have a variety of triggers for their anxiety attacks. However, for some individuals, anxiety attacks may be triggered without any rational reason at all. For this reason, it is very important to find out what anxiety triggers you might have so that you can avoid them when you tend to start a new journey.

If you know what causes your anxiety and triggers it whenever you experience it, you can then take measures that will help reduce or eliminate them from your life.

Some of the most common anxiety triggers include stress, phobias, past incidents of abuse, depression, and other negative feelings, and life situations that make you feel helpless or overwhelmed. Noting down your daily habits, your thoughts, and your feelings daily, you will be able to identify certain things that may be triggering your panic or anxiety attacks and help you overcome them.

These exercises helped me cope up with my anxieties and allowed me to start with a fresh perspective.

  • Start Holding yourself Responsible

To Hold Yourself Accountable is not an easy concept to grasp especially if you’re like most people. It’s not like a simple task. However, it’s very important because holding yourself accountable is the backbone of success. There are three key elements of accountability that you must understand and master.

First off, you must realize your personal accountability. Why do you feel you must be accountable? Because you have a reason (your way) to do what you do and you’re compelled to make sure you succeed. 

Second, you have to develop personal accountability by committing yourself to follow through on your new life. Are they very important? Or are they simply a few steps towards the grand finale of success? 

Finally, you need to develop and maintain personal accountability by regularly (at least once a week) taking a look at your goals and their progress toward completion.

Exercise – Take full responsibility for your Past Mistakes. Acknowledge that you did make some errors but those errors have made you sharper.

  • A Fresh Start Requires Fresh Goals

By fresh goals, I do not at all mean that we should give up on the goals that we set earlier. All we have to do is to look at it from another perspective. However, if you did not have a goal yet, now is the right time to set goals.

If you ask a lot of people what their goals are and most will have goals similar to this: “I want to become financially independent.” While this is indeed noble and honorable, the reality is that unless you make a specific and focused effort to achieve it, money will just be flowing in without you having made any efforts at all. 

I want you to understand that there are a lot of different things that you can do with your Goals and how they achieve them. Goals are just steps. They are steps towards making a more fulfilled life. Example – Workout at least four times a day for 3 months. Each day pushing myself and better than yesterday.

  • Check Your Finances

The Importance of Learning how to get your finances in order is something that many people fail to realize, and this is a huge mistake. You need to learn how important it is to have control over your money and how to get your finances in order before you even think about starting from scratch. Knowing how to get your finances to pay off bills and have a plan in place for where you want to go financially is very important.

While you start fresh you still have to pay your bills to live and understanding how to control your money effectively is very important. How to manage your money effectively and quickly? First of all, you should be able to figure out what you want to achieve in life and how much money you are ready to spend on achieving your goals. After knowing your needs you will be in a position to find the ways and means in which you can move towards your perfect new life while paying your bills. 

  • Challenge your Comfort Zones

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is living in a comfort zone. This means that they get comfortable with whatever they are doing and their life becomes about them and not about their surroundings. The problem with this is that you will eventually tire of doing the same thing over again because it will become monotonous. You will be in your comfort zone so much you will not have the energy to even think about trying something new.

However, when you decide to start a new life, you need to install a belief that a comfort zone is equal to failure. In your everyday life, get out of your comfort zone and try something new. Take steps to become your best you. Take a different road. Challenge your comfort zones by trying something new and exciting. The more that you challenge yourself the more that you grow as an individual and the closer you will become to your full potential.

Exercise – Write down a statement that motivates you to step out of your comfort zone and act upon it

Example – If I feel lazy to work out today I would lose another opportunity to push myself so I better go and work out. 

  • Practice Being Mindful

To create a new start in your life you need to learn to become mindful. If you’re wanting to learn how to become more mindful, one of the first steps is to identify your reactions to what you see and hear. For instance, a good place to start would be to pay attention to what you hear and look at what you see. Next, be aware of your body language. This step alone can have a tremendous impact on how you respond to what you are experiencing.

Finally, the thing you can do to become more mindful is to get involved in the things you love. Even if you don’t like what you are doing, you can still be mindful of it by learning more about it. When you become more mindful of the things that you enjoy, you start to like them more. Therefore, once you get involved with the activities that you enjoy, it becomes easier to be more mindful of them. This is the ultimate solution to living in a stressful world.

  • The Struggle is going to be Inevitable

Struggles are an inevitable part of life. They occur for a variety of reasons, from childhood till you grow old. However, they become more common as we grow older, struggles may become debilitating in some cases. Understand that Life is stressful. As you get older, you face more physical, emotional, and psychological hardships. These struggles are real but the people who run away from struggling are usually in their comfort zones with no purpose and drive in life.

When you decide to improve your life you need to understand that struggle is going to be there regardless of what you do. Instead, you should be proud of yourself for handling many challenges life presents you. You should also be appreciative of the life you are having. Even if you struggle every day, you have shown strength in the face of adversity. Life is not all about success, failure, and setbacks but struggle, hardships, and improvements.

Exercise – This exercise should help you change your beliefs about struggles. Think of the moment when you felt like struggling. It can be your personal or professional life. How did you deal with it? Were you consistent or did you choose to live in your comfort zones? How would your life be if you chose to struggle and held a little bit longer?

  • Keep a Check on your Emotions

Learning how to keep your emotions in check is very important. Controlling your emotions can make or break you. If you are not happy with the way things are going in your life, you will react by trying to be depressed, angry, or any number of other emotions that can destroy your relationships and your career. If you do not learn how to keep your emotions in check, you will end up causing yourself a lot of grief.

If you find yourself getting stressed out over the little things that just don’t matter, it may be time to take a good look at how you react when someone says something nice. Are you quick to anger? Do you get upset over small things? If so, you are ignoring the fact that there are things that require your attention and people in the world that you love.

When you want to start a new life you want to keep your emotions in check, it means that you recognize when it is appropriate to express your feelings and when it is not.
