Life Purpose Statement: The Definitive Guide

Life purpose is one of the questions that we all need to figure out. It is not a goal in the strictest sense but something that guides your actions and the direction you are going. There is no limit to the number of passions that can be pursued; however, sometimes life’s purpose seems too complex to pursue. There are so many reasons why you might not exactly know what your life purpose is below are some of the few reasons why.

3 Reasons Why People don’t Discover their Purpose –

  • You Live Someone Else’s Life –

Stop living someone else’s life! What I mean by this is, If you truly believe you have a right to live your own life the way you want to live it, and you can detach yourself from others and situations outside of yourself, then you will find that you have more freedom and happiness in your life than you ever thought possible.

Many people are so caught up in the security and stability of their relationships that they lose sight of what their life could be like if we figure out what we truly want. The various reason why we choose to live someone else’s life is that we are not aware of what makes us happy or we are not generous to ourselves. Therefore to have a purposeful life, you must first live your own life rather than imitating someone else’s.

  • You like Comfort Zone

A comfort zone is an emotional state where things seem familiar to an individual and they’re at ease in their surroundings, experiencing very low levels of stress and anxiety. However, in this zone, there is often a feeling of the danger of living a life with no purpose. One way to bring us to step outside of our comfort zones and make us uncomfortable is to repeatedly tell ourselves we cannot do something.

This makes us live without purpose and demotivates us to act. By repeating our inability to do something over again, we convince ourselves that we are simply not good enough. To get out of the comfort zone we can use a concept that can help you get out of your comfort zones. It is known as an alter-ego.

Your comfort zone may have you believing that you’re okay with what you are doing, no matter how unpleasant others may think of it. However, if you try to remain stuck in your comfort zone, you’ll stay unhappy. To change-ego, you need to consciously decide that you want to change and start doing so. This can be done by consciously imagining a new scenario in your mind. When you change your thought pattern, you change your behavior.

  • You Fear the Society

Most of us have no purpose because we think of other people’s opinions. There are few people in our lives that we must take opinions to get better at what we do. However, most of us are highly concerned about everyone in general.

To get rid of this feeling. You must first understand that the people who have time to criticize you are uncertain about themselves. Limiting your potential because of others is not a good option since others won’t pay your bills or live a purposeful life.

Importance of Having a Purpose

Now that we know the few reasons people don’t have a purpose in life. It is now time to look at the importance of a purposeful life. You may have noticed that when you have been following someone whose passion had died down (you did this for yourself). You would no longer enjoy expressing your passion, this is because you were not consciously aware of the importance of Living Purposefully. After checking out the importance of discovering your true purpose, you would immediately fall in love with it and would never want to leave it.

  • You get more clarity

I am sure that you have felt the lack of clarity in your life at some point or another. But having a clear purpose in life brings you more clarity. This happens when you face the fact that you are living in a world full of flux and uncertainty.

The clarity in life does not mean settling down for less than what you deserve. It does not mean trying to make things better or harder for yourself in any way. It does not even mean trying to avoid stress in your life. What it does mean is giving yourself permission to have fun and allow yourself to be happy and content just being you. If you can do this then you will find that you are much happier and have more purpose and happiness in life.

  • You begin your Growth Journey

Personal growth is a process that all people must go through in their lives. It involves taking a step forward, moving out of your comfort zones, learning something new, becoming better, getting more out of you, challenging your limits, and expanding your horizons. All these only happen when there is a true purpose or meaning attached to what you want to achieve.

If you want to take your life to the next level and achieve incredible results, you need to work on personal growth. You need to have self-confidence and a strong sense of self-esteem. Personal development should be approached constructively and having a strong purpose will help you get far with it.

With having a true purpose you encourage personal growth which also encourages self-awareness. Self-awareness in the long run helps you become a great leader. Thus, Purpose starts a journey full of challenges, fun, and growth

  • You live with Passion

Let me ask you this: what do you love to do? That’s an easy question to answer because it is unique to each person. Think back to your childhood days and recall the things that seemed to captivate you throughout those years. Perhaps it was drawing or writing or playing sports.

How did those interests influence your life as a child? Were you drawn to sports because of the competition? Did you like the idea that you could become something bigger than yourself? Or were you drawn to something more introspective like art or music or writing? Whatever it was, you liked it because you enjoyed it. The same applies when you find your purpose.

When you find your purpose you tend to enjoy what you do which allows you to live in passion without wasting your life. You are living life to its fullest. You aren’t wasting your time by pursuing something that isn’t exciting to you. Life is meant to be lived to the fullest. Shouldn’t that be what you should be doing your entire life?

  • You become Successful

There are many different things that we need to take into consideration when we are talking about Becoming Successful. The first and foremost thing to consider is your purpose. When you have a strong enough purpose you enjoy your journey towards your goals

If you want to enjoy success, the first step that you have to take is to have a strong purpose. The fact of the matter is that most people do not take action and they end up getting lost in the whole process. As a result, they never get to enjoy what they are working towards because they are involved in a task that has zero purposes attached. To make sure that you make it to your goal and that you enjoy what you are doing every day, you need to have a strong purpose.

Remember though, Having a Purpose or Becoming successful is not a concept that can be understood overnight, and to truly understand it, you need to think and act about it for a very long time before it can be understood.

Steps to Creating a Life Purpose Statement

Having a purpose in life can seem like an elusive dream for most people. But the good news is it can be attained and it doesn’t have to involve finding some secret goal. Some have found their purpose but have still vied for other activities, perhaps influenced by the lure of other endeavors.

Below are the steps that can be used again and again to get the most out of your life. Because you were born with a gift or skill that would bring you joy and happiness for years.

Step 1 – Start with Yourself

It is always good advice to trust your inner voice because your inner voice is the voice of your conscience. Mostly, people lose hope that if they didn’t find their purpose in life until now, they wouldn’t find it later. This is not the case. it can be very difficult for some people to know where they’re at, what they’re capable of, and what their real gifts are. Therefore, the first step is believing in yourself and learning to believe in your potential, your strengths, and the importance of your decisions.

This can be done by looking back at your past and identifying just a single moment where you enjoyed what you did. What was different? How did you feel? What was the reasoning for enjoying the task? Just remember, if you can do it in the past, you can do it time and time again.

Step 2 – Identify your Core Values

What are your core values? Values are the guiding force of life and purpose. It is an intrinsic part of how you define yourself, to the point that it becomes a part of the fabric of how you operate. Core values need to be stated, heard, understood, and actively practiced. It creates the framework within which everyone – including you can understand and anticipate how you work.

To identify your Core Values –

  • Write down all the values you relate yourself with
  • Group those values (Responsibility, Timelessness)
  • Have a Central Theme for your Values (If you have written down Transparency, Honesty, Truth then your central theme becomes integrity)
  • Pick the top value that you value the most!

People who have mastered their core values and principles are unafraid to embrace new ideas and pursue innovative endeavors. They are relentless builders and problem solvers and look forward to learning new things along the way to achieve their purpose in life.

Step 3 – Attach an Emotion

One of the most important things that you can learn about being emotionally attached to your Purpose is that you automatically think about it as part of your own. If you think about your purpose and they make you feel good then you are going to want to spend time with it, act on it, and make necessary decisions. This changes your perspective drastically and you will be constantly working towards improving yourself while enjoying the process

Attaching an Emotional Feeling to your Purpose is quite simple yet challenging. Simply, Imagine the loss of not achieving it and then Imaging the Gain of achieving it. Becoming emotionally attached to your Purpose is that you are setting yourself up for motivation. When you are motivated and you are getting good at working for your purpose, you automatically set yourself up for success.

Step 4 – Write down your Core Purpose

The core purpose is backed by our values. Now that you have new sets of values or you’re just aware of the values it is time to attach an Emotional Feeling towards it and Create your life full of reasons. This is where the magic begins.

Step 5 – Take Actions every day

We need to make one thing very clear that our life is filled with many difficulties when we hunt towards our purpose. But we have got to be adaptive enough to face them. We can not avoid our troubles. We cannot think of what to do in such situations as these. So we need to learn how to adapt to such situations by taking action every day. We have to accept it and get ready for the challenges that lie ahead. We should be acting positively towards things instead of thinking negatively or having any negative thoughts towards something.

One of the biggest benefits of taking positive action every day is that you will end up accomplishing your goal. When you get accomplished you will feel much more content and happy. When you are very happy and content you tend to achieve more. So this cycle will continue and your life will be a lot more fruitful and successful. So to build a life full of purpose it is critical to act upon it.

When to Use your Life Purpose?

Life Purpose is not some mystical woo-woo thing that only people who only chant and meditate in a weird cave have, instead it is something that we all can use to bring out the best in ourselves. But the question is when? Now we do know our life purpose but when shall we use it? Below are the few times you might need to reinstall your purpose in your head.

  • When you Feel Lost

Do you feel lost sometimes for no reason at all? Does it seem like everything is spinning out of control? Don’t worry, we’ve all been there before, and it is not the norm. When you are feeling lost, you need to learn what to remember so that you can start taking back control of your life and getting yourself back on track again.

The first thing to remember when you feel lost is to think about your purpose in doing something and stay focused. Chances are, it’s those things that you don’t want to do. So before you give up and allow yourself to slip away, take a second and think about your purpose, if the actions you’re taking do not serve your purpose then you will be much better off just let go and move on to the next thing.

  • When you want to give up

Most people are too quick to judge the results of their actions. Living your purpose is not easy because it has many challenges. Therefore they tend to give up quickly or take vague actions that return vague results.

If you truly want to accomplish the things that are important to you, then you need to make sure that you are doing everything in your power to get them. When you reach this state of mind you can be confident that you will be able to make all of the decisions that are necessary to accomplish what it is that you desire.

Remember that many people have done just that before you and if they can do it, then you too can.

  • When you lack motivation

Sometimes in our lives, we are not motivated enough to do the things that we need to do to make a difference or accomplish something. There’s a lot that can be achieved if the person is motivated enough to truly work hard at it. But, when you’re in that position where you’re having a tough time taking the necessary steps because you lack motivation.

One of the ways to regain the strength to act is by recalling your purpose. Think about the bigger picture. Think about the feeling you’re after. The feeling that you would feel when you had achieved what you wanted to achieve.

These are some of how we can use purpose when we are pulled back. The fastest way to discover how to discover purpose in life is by means of introspection: plunging deeply into your nature to unearth the pieces to put together the missing piece to build the purpose puzzle. What is your purpose in life? Is it to help others? To live a fuller life? To help solve the world’s problems? Find your purpose and live life to your fullest
